Lunar New Year Celebrations in Chinatown, Singapore
Filed Under (Travel, Blogging) by Evelyn on 08-02-2008
Lunar New Year Celebrations in Chinatown, Singapore, is a regular annual affair.
On our calendar, 2 days are marked as public holidays for the celebrations.
6th Feb 2008 was the Eve of the First Day of celebrations, a day when all Chinese try to get home for a reunion dinner with their families. Unofficially, the festivities would continue for another 2 weeks with a lot of visiting and feasting.
Firecrackers were banned in Singapore since 1972. Last night was a special occasion. Fireworks and firecrackers were lighted to make a boisterous welcome for the year of the Rat. Confetti canons were fired onto the thousands that gathered to watch the special event and performance by local TV artistes. Those who stayed home watched the event and countdown together live on TV.
Here’s wishing you a Happy and Properous Chinese New Year! Gong Xi Fa Cai.

Maybe they are right that firewerks are forbidden, but they are soooo beautiful! A year ago there was a great fireworks concert here not fare from us and it was incredibly!!!!
Beautiful pictures. I celebrated the Chinese new year here in Seattle china town.
Hi Liudmila,
I left before the fireworks were lighted. Wished I had stayed to snap some pictures of the fireworks display. We are looking forward to the next great fireworks show here on 9th August, and that is on our National Day.
Hi Chris
Thanks for compliments. Seattle Chinatown must have given you a fantastic Chinese New Year mood.
My pictures are very amateurish, just fun. I’m still using a Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P73, 4.1 mega pix.
I like your professional shots of the most beautiful and astonishing mountain sceneries. Your recent Black & White shot of “Clearing Storm at Mt Rainier” is just captivating. Your commentary on the shot is excellent too.
Thanks Evelyn. I wish you a happy Valentines and a nice weekend.
Happy Valentines !
